London Transport Museum

London Transport Museum Depot at Acton Town contains one of the most comprehensive and important collections of of urban transport anywhere in the world with over 370,000 thousand items ranging from tube trains and buses to uniforms, signage, engineering drawings and the famous LT poster collections.

The Depot is a vast working museum, storage and restoration complex with live connections to the District and Piccadilly lines at Acton Town. The complex is open to the public at regular intervals throughout the year and Paul Mullins Associates were called in to design the retail facilities, entrance halls and way finding signage.

Kind Words;

“Paul Mullins Associates was called up at short notice to design the entrance facilities at the Museum Depot, Acton, in response to the Heritage Lottery Fund requesting a better ‘sense of arrival’ than the architect’s proposals. PMA worked sympathetically with the transport and brand heritage to design a ticket office in the style of Charles Holden, a red roundel feature over the porch,  reception area and retail shop, all of which has performed very effectively. We were pleased with the speed with which PMA came to terms with the brief and the finished result which does indeed lend a sense of arrival to this landmark museum facility for all our users and staff.
